Many people have never had formal CPR training or their training was a long time ago and they’ve forgotten the steps. The goal was to create an app dedicated to helping people learn CPR.
The goal was to create and app and accompanying responsive website dedicated to helping people learn CPR and be able to use the information easily in an emergency situation.
My goal in user research was to understand why users wanted to learn CPR and how they prefer to learn.
I conducted interviews with users. My assumption was that there would be one best way to convey the CPR information, but found that people learn in lots of different ways. I learned that having multiple ways to learn CPR was key to reaching a wide audience.
I worked through ideas on paper to figure out how to include visual and auditory learning, 911 call capability, a timer, and metranome.
The design was driven by a need to include different learning models, allowing for practicing CPR and using the app in an emergency, and be easy to use hands free if needed.
Study Type: Unmoderated Usability Study
Location: USA, Remote
Participants: 5 Participants
Length: 20 minutes
The timer should be better labeled to explain its purpose.
The size of the information should be increased.
User flow should be clearly labeled so that navigation is simple.
Color choices were made to ensure sufficient contrast.
Information is available in text, audio and video forms.
Users shared that the app made them feel empowered to help those around them in an emergency.
CPR training is an are where there’s a lot of good education, but I learned that the information is presented in a dull way. It was so enjoyable to make an app that delivers such vital information in an engaging way.
"I feel like I can save a life now. I feel so empowered!”
